For information on specific brands of pet foods that are being recalled, please visit the U.S. Food and Drug Administration website here. As of now, the pet food recalls are voluntary. No confirmed cases of illness or contamination has been reported, thus the recalls are precautionary.
Look for the following signs to determine whether or not your pet may have Salmonella Poisoning:
- Vomiting (with or without blood)
- Diarrhea (with or without blood)
- Fever
- Abdominal pain (often indicated by drooling and panting)
- Gurgling and/or bubbling sounds in the abdomen
- Dehydration
- Fever
- Refusal to eat
Salmonella can be transmitted to other animals and humans that have had contact with the infected animal and/or food. It is especially important to thoroughly wash your hands after petting and feeding your pet.
If you suspect your pet may have been exposed, contact your vet immediately.
